Getting directions to and from a place has never been easier.
Google Maps and Waze users on iPhone can now rejoice as Apple announces new Siri integration for navigation with iOS 13 and CarPlay. As an iPhone user, this means that you can now ask Siri to give you directions from one of Google’s navigation services. It’s worth noting that the new feature can also be accessed on CarPlay.
Apple’s Siri is well on its way to becoming a complete voice-driven tool that enables a nearly hands-free Maps experience while driving or commuting. I say nearly because you still have to tap the Start button to get turn-by-turn directions.
Here’s how it works. Simply say “Siri, get me directions to the nearest Walmart,” and Siri will open up Google Maps with directions ready. This also works with specific location requests. For example, you can say, “Siri, take me to the Met using Waze,” and you’ll be taken to the Waze navigation app with the best route ready.
Just don’t forget to ask Siri to open the app you want to use as part of your voice command, otherwise you’ll end up on the Apple Maps app.
You can download Google Maps or Waze from the Apple App store for free.
