Waze looks to make its navigation app even more useful with the addition of a new Real-Time Snow Conditions feature that lets drivers report unplowed roads and black ice.
The new feature which is called “Snow Warnings,” is available in over 185 countries and in more than 50 languages, according to Waze.
You can find the new feature on the Hazards menu under Weather. Simply tap on Unplowed Road report to see snow conditions your route in real time.
The great thing about Waze is that it will use its audio function to let you that an unplowed road or a stretch of black ice is coming up, so you won’t have to take your hands of the wheel and your eyes off the road. Just don’t forget to adjust your settings before driving.
Waze’s snow conditions feature results from a new partnership between the Google-owned navigation app and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). In fact, it was the VDOT who told Waze to create a feature that shows dangerous bits of road during the winter.
The VDOT will also use Waze users’ data to improve their operations during winter, according to several reports.
The Snow Warnings feature should be incorporated into Google Maps because it may be an incredibly useful tool for those driving through snowy weather during winter.
